Complexity Theory
Wow great!
Personal, 091216

So, I was reading this book Shantaram yesterday and what do you know, right there in this book is this theory of complexity briefly outlined when the main charachter, Lin is talking with his mafia boss. I was so surprised!

Why was I surprised? Well, the thing is that I have been playing around with this ideas myself for about two years now - but I did not know that such a theory already existed. No one I have talked to about this ideas, have really been as intrested as I, so I have been feeling that I am a little too alone here with my thoughts. But as it turns out, there is tons and tons of thoughts about this stuff already spun into existence by others. Such a happy surprise and such a boon this internet is.

Broken Arm
Accident in Paradise
Personal, 091130

So, I am writing this post with my lef hand and it takes so much time... Why am I doing that? Well, I broke my arm a week ago.

Me and Anna was staying at this nice island Morro de Sau Paulo in Brazil, not far from Salvador. We were playing around, discovering the island by foot when it so happened that I managed to have an accident that could have taken my life. But luckily I survived and only broke my arm. I received some serious tranquillizer by a doctor and was shipped to main land. I have some fragmented memories, one being x-rayed and looking at the plates. Back on the island Anna was trying her best making SOS International understand they had to help us back to Sweden. Then a very shaky boat ride back to Salvador a day or so later. I was puking my guts out, holding unto my still broken arm longing for treatment and a ticket home to Sweden. Fastforward a day or so and me and Anna were back in Sweden, now trying to make the Swedish healthcare understand the predicament. Fortunately things worked out and I was put on the operation table Saturday. 2 hour surgery, reinforcing my skeleton with titanium. Now I am in pain, chewing on morphine derivatives (which I do not like thus I eat to few of them, but to some extent I prefer pain towards being drugged).

I am glad I did not die and that I managed to save my legs, so they did not break. I do not know what I would have done if Anna had not been so cool about it all and had taken care of me - she is the best!

An angel is walking by my side.

Kindness of Strangers
An experiment
Personal, 090804

So, I was on my way back to work after having had a nice lunch with Anders. Approaching me was this girl. She was nicely and ordinary looking girl. She asked me if I could help her out with some money. She had lost her wallet and now she had to some how get 95 Swedish monies. Telling me her story she started crying and she told me she felt so ashamed, that she had to beg for money. For some reason I decided to extend a loan to her, so I gave her all the money she needed for a ticket back home and gave her my number. She told me she would get back to me tomorrow and arrange for paying me back the money.

A few days ago I was walking home late in the evening. This little punk came up to me and first he pushed me and then he tried to spit at me. The fact that I was at least twenty years older and at least twenty years stronger, did not seem to occur to him. But naturally I walked away thinking that there is still room for improvements in this world.

So while I walked away from a "fight" the other day, I decided that I today did not want to walk away from a person in distress. Tomorrow I will find out whether the girl tricked me or if she was honest.

This is an experiment in the kindness of strangers.

Surf in France
Surfing in France and Spa in Grundsund
Personal, 090727

Vacation. Anna and I took a train down to Saint-Jean-de-Luz where we met up with Albert and friends. We rented this great apartment with paintings covering just about every inch of the walls. Beautiful music could be heard, played by a street orchestra by the harbor. The idyllic town had their own local market where we could buy fish, vegetables and bread. Really friendly people too.

The reason Albert had chosen this particular part of France as our destination, was the close proximity to Hendaye where we went surfing. Hendaye has this five star surf-beginners beach and a lot of schools. We picked one where they had an English speaking instructor and stumbled into the white foam. Having tried surfing once before, I had thought I would never be able to stand up on a surf board. But as it tuned out, is was pretty simple. The dude helping us was really good and after a few hours I managed to take my first wave paddling. Perhaps the beach was a little crowded, but we had a lot of fun.

Back in Sweden we went on a road-trip to Skövde and Grundsund. That was also great. If you ever get to Grundsund, then check out the Spa. They had the best sauna ever.

Now I am back in Malmö, Sweden. Final day of the vacation and I am spending it unpacking my tent and stuff.

Smile
What it does to people
Personal, 090629

I have read some stuff about how the physical posture also affects the consciousness and lately I have been playing around with smiling. I do not remember why I began this experiment but the rules are simple: even though there might be no apparent reason or happy thoughts, twist the lips and wry your face in a smile.

I have tested doing this for a while now and have noticed something really peculiar. Even though I only technically smile, i.e. I make a grimace, my consciousness gets affected. My breathing pattern changes and become more relaxed, lightweight thoughts are more likely to arise and I become more focused on the task at hand. Everything somehow feels a lot easier. Very interesting that engaging some muscles in ones face, can have such an affect.

Corvus Corax Stella Splendens
Corvus Corax 1994 auf Burg Hornberg
Personal, 090311

After the call I think about what the future will be like. I do my work, I write on me book and I pass time. Today I went down to Västrahamnen, had a coffe and a beer with Anders. Did some brainstorming I came up with a crazyly idea for an Android app. Today my old project leader, Marcus Stjärnås, gave me cake for a job well done in the project I has been involved in the past half year. I appreciated the gesture very much and will remember my time in that project as a good time with good co-workers and best possible leadership. All jobs should be like that. Today I have also learned more about how to buy and sell ETFs. Next up is forex. I certainly do not have a lot of money, but the little money I have saved I do not want to go up in the smoke of hyperinflation or be wasted by some no good fond manager. I have me eyes on ETFs on oil, agriculture, metals and Yuan why not.

Snowboard in Chamonix
Vacation with playing with snow
Personal, 090215

So, I was standing there at the top of a mountain looking down the steep snowy and icy slope. I was there by mistake, having not read the map correctly. As it was my first week on snowboard and had just learned the basic stance and technique and I felt that I was in a little over my head. When I stepped of the lift I expected to see blue signs, indicating easy routes suitable for beginners like me, but black slopes were the one and only option available. "What the hell", I said to myself and pushed myself up form the snow and took it on, head first.

As it turned out, it was not that hard as I thought and I ended up practicing on the black slopes the rest of the midmorning. From what I have heard, it is quite an achievement to go from truly debutant in green slopes, to black and off-pist slopes in six days. I guess several years of longboarding made that possible.

On the way home I teamed up with Linda and Tenge and went down an off-pist. Later on I learned that we had skied down a place where the were avalanche risk, but luckily we did not trigger one. It would have been magnificent to trigger and then see one (from a safe distance).

The week was great. The best thing was the plenty of power snow that I had the fortune to surf on. Powder is truly addictive and even though I just came home, I am already looking forward for the next snowboarding session.

Dead Space
360 game
Personal, 090130

So, I just played Dead Space for like three hours or so and I am simply amazed. I especially like the little dust particles flying around, that both creates a sense of space and brings the air to life. Great visual and sound and everything! Damn good game!

Personal, 090106

Oh what a great holiday it has been. Celebrating the new year at Sannas place was terrific. Albert is visiting and pulled together the old Risk playing club and there is more of those to come. I and Anna helped Annika with some work on her house, visited Nimis and so much more...

Yesterday evening was spent together with Miss Jannerts, Jesper and Albert and Rappakalja. Did some cooking with ginger and chili today, oh my does it taste good.
